Home Steam Shower

Your residential steam shower options

A home steam shower unit is now considered one of the premiere items to add to your bathroom.

Because of technology advancements, you no
longer have to travel
to a spa or health club to enjoy a soothing steam shower.

You can bring the
experience right into your own bathroom.

By the way, if you're new to steam showers, two short articles of interest may be What Is A Steam Shower and Steam Shower Benefits.

If you're considering adding one to your home, you basically have two options:

Residential steam showers are becoming a more common bathroom fixture these days, and technical innovations have resulted in lower costs and some very attractive options.

After doing some research about different types of built-in home steam shower units, here is what I found out...

Self-Contained Enclosures

There are "basic" and "luxury" steam shower units...

A basic home steam shower enclosure

steam shower unit
is just big enough to hold 1 or maybe 2 adults. It's the smallest and least expensive option.

It normally includes...

  • a steam jet
  • spaces for soap and other products
  • built-in seating

Some include a few "extras" like several massage jets, a foot massager and a decorative lighting.

The entire set up would occupy about the same amount of space as your average bathtub enclosure.

On the other hand, contemporary shower enclosures include a whole suite of extra features.

Luxury home steam shower units

How would you like to turn your bathroom into a mini spa? Luxury stand-alone units are beautifully designed and visually stunning. They're usually big enough to hold 2 to 3 people and are available in three different versions:

1. a “regular” shower enclosure loaded with extra features
2. a combination shower and whirlpool
3. a combination shower and sauna

(I've written a separate page about home steam shower combo units)

These “luxury” models are loaded with enough features to choke a horse, including…

  • water massage jets

  • hand held shower nozzle

  • foot massager

  • fm radio and audio input for a cd

  • remote control

...and more.

Some units also include decorative mood lights, a full digital control panel and chromatherapy.

To really enhance your whole experience, the steam outlets include aromatherapy oil distribution capacity. Add drops of essential oils and you'll enjoy a pleasing aroma while you take your shower.

At that point, the world around you could crumble without you even realizing it.

Shower/Whirlpool Combo steam shower whirlpool
This model combines a residential steam shower, steam room, and whirlpool tub into one! You can start your day off with a refreshing steam shower, and relax at the end of your day in the whirlpool.

Newer models also include water proof LCD screens so you can watch TV if you want.

Your shower and whirlpool enclosure can serve as a place for relaxation and entertainment.

You can choose wet or dry heat with this one.

A shower/sauna combo unit allows you to take your pick at any given time.

Build Your Own

You can convert an existing walk-in shower stall or bathtub enclosure into a steam shower. You’ll need to make the enclosure vapor tight and buy a steam shower generator.
