I have read some of the most ridiculous claims.
2. Deeper detoxification capability
The Heat Difference
Traditional saunas operate at an average temperate between 150 and 200° F.
The average temperate in an infrared sauna ranges from about 110 to 140° F.
We're talking about an air temperature difference of around 40 to 90 degrees!
For people who find the air in a traditional sauna intolerable, this is a huge benefit.
Detoxification
Saunas in general are good for detoxification, but a far infrared sauna may have deeper tissue cleansing effects.
Far infrared radiant energy penetrates the skin about one and a half inches deep.
Dr. Lawrence Wilson wrote an article called Detox In The Sauna. In the article he says...
"According to research, far-infrared is more cleansing than traditional saunas. The deep penetration of the infrared energy allows the cells to eliminate better."
This penetration is probably the reason many people report sweating sooner and heavier compared to a traditional sauna.
The heavier sweating most likely means that more waste material (yuck) is expelled also.
More on far infrared energy and toxins
Toxins come from a variety of places – contaminated air, crops sprayed with pesticides and herbicides, and water to name a few.
Toxic gases and substances that we are all constantly exposed to reportedly become encapsulated in water molecules within the body.
The bad news for you and me is that when these toxins accumulate, blood circulation and cellular energy are impaired.
Based on resources that I believe are reliable, infrared heat causes these water molecules to vibrate. The vibrations cause the water molecules to break down. The result is a release of toxic gases and other toxic "stuff".
At Dr. Wilson's website, he says...
“Infrared is an antioxidant nutrient, activates the cells, supports metabolic processes and decouples toxins from water molecules."
What About Evidence?
Many people - including some health professionals, argue that there is little medical support about infrared sauna benefits.
They're right - to date there isn't much medical evidence.
But let's face it - studying alternative methods for health improvement isn't real high on the "to do" list within the medical community.
I've personally found enough information to make me a believer about the potential health benefits of far infrared saunas.
As I find new information from unbiased resources, I will definitely post it on this website.
Interested in using an infrared sauna to improve specific health conditions? You should thoroughly research the topic of sauna therapy. Discuss your findings with your physician to help determine if sauna therapy is safe for you.
I also encourage you to read Dr. Wilson's Sauna Therapy
