Modular Sauna Kits

A modular sauna room is a good choice if you want to own a sauna that's both portable and easy to assemble.

Before I talk about the pros and cons, I think I should clear up a little confusion first...

There Are Two Kinds Of Kits

There are modular kits and there are pre-cut kits.

So what's the difference? Here's a simple explanation...

Modular kits (also known as pre-built or prefabricated sauna kits) include 2 to 5 easy-to-assemble pieces. They're portable saunas because it's easy to detach, relocate, then reattach the panels.

Pre-cut kits include a lot more pieces to assemble and they're usually permanent once they're built.

Modular kits cost more than precut kits because the construction work is done for the most part.

We're going to discuss modular pre-fab sauna kits in this article.

You can read about pre-cut sauna kits here.

The "Good" And The "Bad"

You can assemble a pre-fab sauna room in minimal time in any area that has a hard surface, waterproof floor and electric service.

Compared to pre-cut sauna kits, prefabricated saunas are much easier to assemble.

That’s the good news.

Now for the drawback...

Pre-fab kits are usually more expensive than pre-cut sauna kits of comparable size. However, the additional cost may be worth it if…

1. you want to save time assembling your sauna,
2. you’re not very good with your hands, and
3. you don’t want to pay a contractor to set up your sauna.

On the other hand, if you...

  • are a do-it-yourselfer,
  • enjoy piecing things together, and
  • want to save some money,

You probably want to go with a pre-cut home sauna kit.

But if you’re anything like me – if you would rather have quick and easy assembly, then a modular sauna kit is the better choice.

Modular kits consist of a series of panels that are pre-assembled.

Your package would include everything:

  • pre-built and insulated wall and ceiling panels,
  • assembled benches,
  • assembled headrests for upper benches,
  • heater and stones, etc.

An assembly guide will also be included, and some manufacturers include an instruction video with your purchase.

You will need an electrician to handle some electrical connections.

Let's summarize the pros and cons...

Pros. Modular sauna rooms are easy to assemble - you don’t need to have great framing skills to put the panels together.

It's quite possible to assemble the pieces in a little more or less than an hour.

It's also very simple to take your sauna apart. This makes it easy for you to relocate it if you need or want to.

Cons. There aren't many cons, although two disadvantages come to mind:

1) Modular sauna kits cost more to buy and more to ship.
2) There’s not much flexibility in choosing the sauna size and layout (compared to pre-cut sauna kits).
