Outdoor Sauna

You can purchase an outdoor sauna kit that will be designed to endure different weather elements.

You can set up your sauna in your front or back yard, on your deck or patio, or near your vacation home (if you have one).

Here are some things to consider before you set up an outdoor sauna...

Wherever you decide to set up your sauna, it will need to be situated on a non-penetrable surface.

Before you even think about placement, you should check your local building codes first. You may need to obtain a permit before you assemble your outdoor sauna kit.

Some design considerations and points to ponder...

What style would you like?

There are different designs on the market to choose from...

Would you like a small cabin look?

Or how about a barrel-shaped sauna?

Prefer contemporary styles? There are choices for you too.

How large do you want your sauna?

Will guests be using it or just you and immediate family members?

Do you want any additional rooms such as a shower and changing area?

There are models that include spacious changing rooms and a shower area.

This can be especially useful if the sauna will be included in your entertainment plans.

If your sauna will be near a pool, it can actually double as a pool house.

What about your heat?

You’ll need to think about what kind of power will be easily available.

If electricity will be unavailable or unreliable, you may need to go with a wood sauna heater or gas heater instead of an electric one. Again, you'll need to check the codes in your area to find out what's allowed and not allowed.

Would you like the ability to have your sauna in or outdoors?

In that case, you can purchase a pre-built portable sauna kit with attachments included.

For example, when your sauna is outside, you may need to attach a roof kit that will be included unless you place it under cover.

If you really want to add something to your experiences, plan your sauna design and placement with the course of the sun and moon in mind.

With correct placement of your sauna and windows, you can catch the sun light if you take a sauna early and watch the moon light in the evening. How does that sound for a mood-and-ambience-enhancing effect?

Once you have things all set up in alignment with your specifications, an outdoor sauna could be your little ‘retreat’ away from home - without having to travel far for it.
