Steam Room Generator

Selecting the right one

The price and best type of steam generator for your steam room will depend on a number of factors.

First of all, there is no such thing as one size fits all when it comes to generator selection.

You can expect to spend anywhere from around $800 and up to about $2,000.

However, I have seen very basic generators that cost around $600, and the most expensive units are priced close to $3,000.

How do you choose the right steam generator?

• Size matters. A bigger generator means a bigger price tag.

You have to take measurements to figure out the cubic feet of your steam room enclosure. This information is used to determine the size your generator should be.

For example, if you have a small steam room or if you’re converting a small shower enclosure into a steam room, a small generator should get the job done.

• What is your steam room made of? Certain materials allow greater heat loss – a larger generator is needed in those cases. Materials like fiberglass and cultured marble require smaller generators than porcelain tile.

• Do you want the works? There are basic generators and there are generators with extra features.

Would you like a timer for automatically switching the unit on and off at pre-set times?

And the ability to set the duration of your steam bath?

Is aesthetic appeal important, or do you even care what it looks like?

• Would you like auto flush with that? Auto flush is an optional self-cleaning system. Water is drained after each use. This provides clean, fresh water for your next steam bath. This system saves you maintenance time – a true benefit if you ask me.

Other factors that impact the price are the quality of the machinery and the amount of aftermarket service the manufacturer offers.

Generators with a substantial warranty usually have good quality components, and that makes them more expensive.

Before you shop, I suggest having a firm idea of the amount that you want to spend. If money is no object, well get all the extra features, bells and whistles that you desire!
